General Description

At Underline, we are driven by a singular mission: to ensure the vibrancy of our nation through building intelligent community infrastructure. We work with communities across the United States to design, finance, and construct open access fiber-optic networks. We believe these networks are the essential foundation for ultra-fast access to information, a competitive market for content and services, job formation and re-skilling for workers, distributed healthcare services, new wireless solutions, and resilient modern infrastructure including responsible energy creation.

We’re looking for a collaborative designer to continue evolving our brand - delivering social media experiences, illustration, print design, and other visual collateral. The work will focus largely on developing and managing community sub-brands in addition to our corporate brand. You will report directly to the Head of Product and Design and collaborate closely with the Communications & Marketing team on specific needs and projects.

What you'd be doing:

  • Own the brand of the company and build campaign strategies across multiple markets
  • Work with citizens on the ground in communities to discover new opportunities to connect
  • Build out visual media including animation, illustration, layout, physical promotional items (shirts, posters, etc), print designs, visuals for blogs and presentations, and limited web design
  • Work with the Head of Product and Design as well as the Head of Marketing and Communications on multiple projects and campaigns
  • Develop new ideas and approaches to how Underline connects with communities on the ground
  • You are diligent about keeping well-organized files and documentation

Experience we require:

  • Experience working with Adobe products like Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects
  • Experience working with Figma and Webflow
  • You have an interest in civic engagement and how technology can help
  • You have an established portfolio

Bonus points:

  • You have experience working on civic and/or mission-based projects for communities
  • Some knowledge of internet policy, networks, or software development
